Successful GCSE results day at Teesdale School

Today, students at Teesdale School in Barnard Castle received their impressive GCSE results, further emphasising the school’s outstanding educational standards. Given the turbulence experienced by schools and their young people as a result of the pandemic, the results achieved by this cohort of students are all the more significant.

One in four of all grades were 7 or above which is the equivalent of A*-A under the old grading system. 78% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and Maths. This is significantly above the national average and provides students with the platform they need to access a range of post-16 opportunities that provide a platform for their future life.

The academic excellence of the school is further evidenced by the fact that 39% of students achieved grade 4 or above in the most facilitating academic subjects, securing the prestigious Ebacc.

There are a number of outstanding individual performances including brothers, Sanjeev and Rajeev Balamurugan who secured 10 grade 9s between them, Blake Milroy who achieved 2 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s and 2 grade 7s, Harriet Wildy who got 3 grade 9s, 2 grades 8s and 3 grade 7s, and Rory Hart achieved 4 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s, 3 grade 7s, and a grade 6.

Head Teacher, Anna Cleckner, said:

“It’s truly heart-warming to witness our students’ accomplishments today and I want to express my profound pride for each of their achievements – congratulations! Their journey to these results amidst the challenges brought about by the global pandemic, demonstrates an unwavering spirit of resilience and adaptability. School for this year group hasn’t been easy; disrupted lessons, shifting from physical classrooms to virtual ones, and adapting to ever-changing routines imposed by the pandemic threw unprecedented challenges in their way. Yet, in the face of these hurdles, they have persevered and achieved great success in their exams. Beyond these outstanding grades, it’s their personal and collective growth journey that deserves celebration.”

Chair of governors, Suzanne Duncan, added:

“Teesdale School is a fantastic place for these children to learn – just look at what they have achieved in the face some extraordinary circumstances. This is thanks to the dedication and talent of teachers and support staff who kept students learning as much as possible in almost impossible circumstances. Well done to everyone involved in achieving today’s results – you should all be incredibly proud.”
