West View Primary School embrace exciting new art initiative

Pupils at West View Primary School in Hartlepool have been embracing their creativity as part of a vibrant new art initiative that not only celebrates their talents… but also raises valuable funds for the school! That’s certainly a win-win.
Located on Davison Drive, West View recently became an accredited Arts Award Centre through Trinity College London, an initiative designed to nurture artistic skills and leadership among young people.
Through the programme, children can work toward nationally recognised qualifications in the arts at various levels, offering both personal achievement and creative development.

A fantastic turnout that left everybody amazed!
Michelle Crawford, Year 3 teacher and Arts Award Adviser at West View, shared:
“Art is an important part of the school curriculum and initiatives like this help our children grow their art skills.
“Some children visited the beach to create the theme for their individual pieces of art whilst others focussed on photography. Children also study the work of a well-known artist as part of the first stage of the qualification.
“Year 3 (7/8-year-olds) and Year 4 (8/9-year-olds) participated in the initiative and produced amazing artwork which recently went on display in our school gallery.
“Parents/carers were invited to view and purchase their child’s framed artwork with some of the proceeds being used to support the school. We had a fantastic turnout, and everyone was really impressed with the quality of work on display.”
Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “It’s fantastic to see schools like West View Primary championing creativity and giving pupils the opportunity to shine beyond the core curriculum.
“Projects like this not only develop artistic skill but build confidence, resilience, and a real sense of community. This is exactly the kind of enriching education we need to celebrate across the North East.”

Creative expression remains a priority
In addition to taking part in the Arts Award, the school has appointed art ambassadors in every class, encouraging leadership and pride in creative expression throughout the school community.
To further enhance the project, West View partnered with Images, a UK-wide organisation that supports art in education by helping schools display and celebrate pupils’ creative work.
Duncan Robinson of Images said: “It’s been a joy to work with West View Primary School and see the incredible creativity of the children come to life.
“At Images we’re passionate about giving young people a professional platform to shine – seeing their framed work displayed in a gallery setting not only builds confidence but also fosters a real sense of pride within the school and wider community.”
