Throckley Primary School soars to Outstanding: “Pupils are at the heart of everything”

We’re bursting with pride to share some incredible news from one of our brilliant schools within the ONE (Owl North East) Trust family!

Throckley Primary School has achieved the highest possible accolade from Ofsted, securing an Outstanding rating in all areas following their inspection in January. This remarkable achievement is a true testament to the dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment of the entire Throckley Primary School community.

Nurturing atmosphere and dedicated staff

The Ofsted report paints a vibrant picture of a school where children truly flourish. Inspectors were clearly impressed, noting that the pupils “thrive in this welcoming and highly inclusive environment.” This speaks volumes about the nurturing atmosphere that the staff have cultivated, ensuring every child feels valued and supported from the moment they walk through the doors.

At the heart of Throckley Primary School’s success is a meticulously crafted curriculum. As the report highlights, the “high-quality curriculum for personal development is central to Throckley Primary School’s offer and has been carefully crafted to meet the needs of the school community.”

This isn’t just about academic excellence; it’s about nurturing well-rounded individuals ready to thrive in all aspects of life. The wide array of “engaging extra-curricular clubs” further enriches the pupils’ experiences, and the school’s work to develop their character is rightfully described as “exemplary.”

The passion and dedication of the staff shine through in the words of Co-Head Teacher, Julia Brown: “We are thrilled with the result of our recent inspection – this recognition is testament to our fantastic school community; our engaged and enthusiastic pupils; our supportive parents and carers; and the passion and dedication of our hard-working staff team.”

The report further emphasises the expertise of the teaching staff, recognising them as “subject experts, using their expertise to ensure pupils consistently produce high-quality work and pupils talk about their learning with excitement and confidence.”

Pupils encouraged to reach their full potential

Throckley Primary School’s commitment to fostering a love of reading is also a significant highlight. Inspectors noted that “the school also demonstrated to inspectors its commitment to teaching every child to read. The children have access to a wide variety of high-quality books, which encourage pupils to read for pleasure and to build a genuine love of reading – something the school is incredibly proud of.” In a world where literacy is paramount, this dedication to nurturing a lifelong love of books is truly commendable.

Co-Head Teacher, Lynsey Giblin, beautifully articulates the school’s core philosophy: “Pupils are at the core of everything we do at Throckley Primary School. Our curriculum is highly ambitious and designed to support pupils from their very first day with us, ensuring they achieve their best. We are especially proud that this report highlights the dedication of our wonderful staff, who work tirelessly to help pupils reach their full potential.”

Ofsted were particularly impressed with the school’s Early Years provision, stating that it “ensures that children love school and love to learn.” This strong foundation sets the tone for a positive and successful educational journey. Furthermore, the report highlights the “exceptional support” provided to “pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND),” ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.

A collective strength and commitment you cannot doubt

The school’s deeply embedded values – Pride, Success, Teamwork, Respect, Caring, and Learning – are clearly not just words on a page. They permeate every aspect of school life, resulting in “exceptional” behaviour from the children, as commended by Ofsted.

Helen Richardson, Chair of Trustees for ONE Trust, rightly expresses the Trust’s pride: “As a Trust, we are incredibly proud of Throckley’s school community and the outstanding achievements recognised by Ofsted.” This achievement reflects the collective strength and commitment across the entire Trust.

Ultimately, Ofsted’s overall conclusion speaks volumes about the exceptional environment at Throckley Primary School: “Overall, Ofsted recognise that the pupils of Throckley Primary ‘achieve well, are well cared for and nurtured and, as a result, feel safe and happy.’”

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “This Outstanding rating is a fantastic achievement for Throckley Primary School, its pupils, staff, parents, and the entire ONE (Owl North East) Trust.

“It’s a shining example of what can be achieved when a school truly puts “pupils at the heart of everything.” Congratulations to everyone at Throckley Primary School!”
