Stocksfield Avenue Primary School shines in special virtual performance for MOBO Awards Fringe Festival

Stocksfield Avenue Primary School, part of Smart Multi Academy Trust, has once again showcased its incredible musical talent, this time on a national stage. The school’s choir was selected to take part in a special virtual performance of God Gave Me Feet for Dancing by Ezra Collective featuring Yazmin Lacey.

This unique arrangement, created exclusively by Sing Up, has provided pupils across the city with an unforgettable opportunity to be part of a major celebration of music and culture.

An experience that emphasised the power of music in education

The performance is a highlight of the MOBO Awards Fringe Festival, an exciting series of events that surround the prestigious MOBO Awards—one of Europe’s biggest celebrations of Music of Black Origin.

With Newcastle hosting the awards this year, the festival is bringing live performances, workshops, and community events to the heart of the region, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of Black music and culture.

Stocksfield Avenue Primary School’s involvement in this project reflects the power of music in education, inspiring creativity, collaboration, and a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage.

Pupils received a platform to shine, build confidence, and connect

Adding to the excitement, BBC Radio Newcastle visited the school to capture the choir’s inspiring performance, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the enthusiasm and dedication of the young singers.

Their participation not only highlights the school’s commitment to music education but also provides pupils with a platform to shine, build confidence, and connect with a wider audience.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to be part of something truly special, reinforcing the idea that music has the ability to bring people together, celebrate diversity, and create lasting memories. Stocksfield Avenue Primary School is proud to play a role in this incredible initiative, and we look forward to seeing the final performance as part of the MOBO Awards Fringe Festival.

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “We are incredibly proud of these pupils for being part of this inspiring performance.

“Music has the power to unite and uplift, and this opportunity to perform as part of the MOBO Awards Fringe Festival is something these students will remember for years to come. It’s a wonderful celebration of their talent, hard work, and the joy that music brings to our school communities.”
