Viking Voyage: Sunderland pupils enjoy a breathtaking Icelandic adventure
Iceland is truly an unforgettable destination with its breathtaking landscapes, geothermal wonders, and unique culture. Don’t believe us? Just ask the students at Southmoor Academy, Sunderland, who were incredibly fortunate to visit.
The pupils recently embarked on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, and it’s safe to say the Nordic island country has left a lasting impression on everyone involved in the trip.
A truly transformative experience
Anya Clayton, a bright and enthusiastic Year 10 student, shares her firsthand account of this incredible expedition:
“In Iceland, we had some amazing experiences! When we first arrived, we went bowling. During the days, we visited Skógafoss and Gullfoss waterfalls, a black sand beach, a Geyser, a glacier and we even got the chance to explore the geothermal hot springs which are a popular tourist attraction. Personally, it was the best part of the Iceland trip.
We stayed in a hotel in Reykjavik, and we also visited the city’s cathedral which gets lit up at night.
On our last night, we all had pizza, and some students were given awards for their effort on the trip. To sum it up, we have made loads of great memories.”
An amazing opportunity embraced by all
Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “As Anya has so eloquently expressed, this visit to Iceland was more than just a trip; it was a transformative experience that broadened horizons, fostered friendships, and created lasting memories.
“We’re truly delighted that Southmoor pupils were able to experience this (although we’re also a little jealous, too!). We look forward to learning more about these incredible trips.”
