Queen Margaret’s School Praises Students’ Endeavour
Queen Margaret’s School for Girls in Escrick, York, has today praised students for their huge endeavour of studying for A Levels over the last two unprecedented years, and still managing to achieve such exceptional results.
The day and boarding school for girls is once again delighted with its 100% A Level pass rate and is especially proud that, despite the difficult circumstances they’ve endured, 97% of girls achieved or exceeded their ALIS (A Level Information System) targets.
A* Joy
Queen Margaret’s students had to study for their A Levels remotely all over the globe during lockdown; be it local girl, Gabriella, from York, who achieved three A* grades (plus an A* in her Extended Project Qualification) and has secured a place to study Psychology at the University of York; or Jane, who spent lockdown in China and secured four A* grades and one A, and will go on to study Physics at UCL. During the national school closures, Queen Margaret’s very quickly introduced a robust online platform – QM Connect – so the girls could seamlessly continue their studies at home. Their results are testament to this remote learning provision, indeed, Jane attributes her results to the “outstanding efforts of teachers and staff during lockdown”.
An Individual Approach
In total, 95% of all Queen Margaret’s A Level entries gained A*-B grade (77% of entries were the highly sought after A*-A grades) enabling the girls to go on and study courses including Law, Art Foundation, Architecture and Economics and Politics at highly regarded universities like Liverpool, Edinburgh and Exeter. Flo, who has secured three A* grades and will go on to study Behavioural Science at Durham University, credits the support she received; “The teachers and staff at QM have been absolutely amazing in helping us all navigate the world of
online learning and the support they’ve given us academically, and in terms of our wider wellbeing, has been unparalleled”. The small school believes its individual approach to teaching has helped the girls on their way to life after Sixth Form.
Queen Margaret’s Head, Sue Baillie, commented: “We say ‘Our Girls Take on the World’ and with these results they really have proven that they do; they have tackled A Levels and in the midst of a global pandemic, they have shown such resilience and their success is so very well-deserved”.
