Norton Primary Academy earns high praise from Ofsted: A beacon of excellence

Northern Education Trust is thrilled to announce that Norton Primary Academy has made significant improvements across all areas, as confirmed by Ofsted following their inspection on 7 and 8 January 2025.

While the academy was first rated GOOD in April 2019, inspectors now highlight that, had this been a graded inspection, the school would be deemed OUTSTANDING in every category. What an achievement!

A school that champions every child’s potential

At Norton Primary Academy, the belief that every child can reach their full potential is deeply embedded in the school’s culture. Pupils understand that their teachers and school leaders are dedicated to their success, encouraging them to embrace their strengths and push beyond their limits.

A key factor in this success is the academy’s broad and engaging personal development curriculum. Ofsted inspectors recognised the school’s ethos of kindness, belonging, and safety, noting that staff set ambitious goals for every pupil. They were particularly impressed by pupils’ attitudes to learning, describing their focus in lessons as “exemplary.”

A balanced approach: Academic excellence and character development

Ofsted’s report highlights Norton Primary Academy’s commitment to both academic success and personal growth. Inspectors noted that pupils achieve exceptionally well and are well-prepared for the next stages of their education:

“The well-designed, exciting curriculum supports pupils to learn effectively. Staff are ambitious for pupils’ success. This can be seen through the strong outcomes pupils achieve across the curriculum, including in national assessments. Pupils strive to always do their best. They are proud of their achievements.”

Beyond academic achievement, the school fosters character development. Pupils confidently uphold and demonstrate the academy’s core values of respect, resilience, and kindness. Inspectors observed that children are exceptionally well-mannered, considerate towards their peers, and form excellent relationships with staff, who offer both support and challenge in equal measure.

For pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), Norton Primary Academy ensures that individual needs are identified early and that the necessary support is in place. This inclusive approach enables all children to thrive and succeed.

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “This outstanding Ofsted report is a testament to the dedication, passion, and relentless hard work of all staff, students, and wider school community.

“Congratulations to everyone involved; this is your success, and it is truly deserved!”

Principal’s reflections on a remarkable achievement

Michelle Randall-Harris, Principal of Norton Primary Academy, expressed immense pride in the school’s progress and the recognition from Ofsted. She said: “I am absolutely delighted that Ofsted have recognised the incredible efforts that all stakeholders make on a daily basis.  The improving status of the school and the fact Ofsted could not find any areas for improvement is a true testament to the hard work of our talented and dedicated staff, students, trustees and governors who have made this possible.

“We have high aspirations for every single one of our students.  I am so pleased that Ofsted have recognised a culture of kindness, inclusivity and support at Norton Primary, and the high quality of education we provide.  We will continue to make choices to benefit all children with the aim to improve life chances.”

Congratulations again, Norton Primary Academy!
