North East SCITT named best postgraduate teacher training

The North East Partnership SCITT has been named as the best provider of postgraduate teaching training in the country.

The Good Teacher Training Guide 2015, produced by the Centre for Education and Employment Research (CEER), found that the partnership of 29 secondary schools offers the best quality training in the country. The North East Partnership SCITT is followed by Billericay Educational Consortium SCITT and King Edward’s Consortium. The rankings are based on equal weightings of entry qualifications, quality and teaching take-up.

Programme Leader, Helen Ostell said: “We are delighted to get this recognition which reflects the very hard work of the schools, staff and trainees involved in the partnership.”

The North East Partnership SCITT trains secondary Physical Education teachers and was graded as outstanding in every category by Ofsted in November 2013. For the first time this year all trainees will teach a second subject alongside Physical Education and this will be predominantly either a core subject or an EBacc subject. For further details please contact Helen Ostell on helen.ostell@ntlp.org.uk.

The CEER research also found that more men were training to be primary school teachers in 2015, but fewer were entering secondary schools. You can read the latest Good Teacher Training Guide here.
