Grindon Hall school to leave Bright Tribe for North East Learning Trust

Grindon Hall school in Sunderland, part of troubled Bright Tribe, is to leave their previous sponsor and join the The Academy at Shotton Hall’s North East Learning Trust (NELT).

The Principal of Grindon Hall Christian School, Joanne Maw, announced this week that NELT was now their preferred sponsor.

Bright Tribe, which has been marred with controversy since 2017, also lost Whitehaven Academy in Cumbria last week after it was taken over by new sponsor, the Cumbria Education Trust.

In a letter to parents addressing the issue this week, Ms Maw said:  “I am writing to you with some positive news about our future sponsorship.

“I am well aware that there has been a recent period of uncertainty for you all, and I am pleased that I can now share with you our plans for the future.

“I am certain they provide a secure and successful way forward for the children and families of Grindon Hall Christian School.

“The ethos is that the ‘North East Learning Trust is for every child to experience excellence every day’. I know this is what we want also for our children.”

Discussions will now get underway with NELT to talk about working together in the future.

NELT has in its MAT The Academy at Shotton Hall, Easington Academy, Ashington Academy, Teesdale School, Browney Academy, Diamond Hall Junior School, Sacriston Academy, with Bedlington Academy soon to join.
