Gosforth Group Academies shine bright in latest performance tables

Exciting news from within the Gosforth Group Multi Academy Trust! The recently-released preliminary performance tables have highlighted the exceptional achievements of two of the flagship academies: Jesmond Park Academy and Gosforth Academy.

Based on the report from NewcastleWorld.com, both schools have secured positions within the top 11 secondary schools in Tyne & Wear! That’s certainly impressive.

Not only meeting expectations, but exceeding them

The rankings, which place Gosforth Academy in third place and Jesmond Park Academy in ninth place, are based on the crucial Progress 8 Score for the academic year 2023/2024. For those unfamiliar, this metric is a powerful indicator of a school’s effectiveness, assessing how well students learn and progress from their starting point in primary school compared to their peers nationally. A score above zero is positive, and anything above 0.2 is considered “above average.”

And the results speak for themselves! Jesmond Park Academy proudly reports a Progress 8 score of 0.29, which is officially deemed ‘above average’. Meanwhile, Gosforth Academy has achieved an outstanding score of 0.64, placing them firmly in the ‘well above average’ category. This remarkable performance signifies that both academies are not only meeting but exceeding expectations, outperforming many other schools both locally and across the country.

Gosforth Academy’s impressive third-place ranking with a Progress 8 score of 0.64 is a clear indication of their “high standards of education and robust student achievement.” Having already earned a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted, the academy’s success in nurturing students from Year 9 through to their popular Sixth Form demonstrates the effectiveness of their “innovative teaching methods and supportive environment” in fostering exceptional academic outcomes.

Similarly, Jesmond Park Academy, securing ninth place with a score of 0.29, is celebrated for its “consistent educational quality and nurturing atmosphere for students.” Serving students from Year 7 to their successful Sixth Form and maintaining a ‘good’ overall rating from Ofsted, their continued dedication to “continuous improvement translates into tangible success for its students.”

Creating an environment where every pupil can thrive

This fantastic achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of both Gosforth Academy and Jesmond Park Academy to “exceptional standards of educational practice, school management, and safeguarding.” By consistently meeting and exceeding government expectations, they are providing a truly conducive learning environment where students can thrive academically and personally.

The dedication and collaborative spirit within these academies are further highlighted by the words of their leaders. Steve Campbell, the Principal of Jesmond Park Academy, proudly states: “The performance is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, students, and our parents and carers. We are immensely proud of our students’ achievements and remain committed to delivering a high-quality education that empowers them to succeed.”

Echoing this sentiment, Preit Chahal, Principal of Gosforth Academy, shares his pride, “We are thrilled to be acknowledged among the top state secondary schools in the region. Our focus on academic excellence, combined with our commitment to student wellbeing, allows us to create an environment where every pupil can thrive.”

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “These results are a fantastic testament to the hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment of the staff, students, and wider community at both Jesmond Park Academy and Gosforth Academy.

“We are incredibly proud to have these outstanding schools in the region, and we look forward to their continued success in empowering the next generation of learners.”
