Dyke House Principal to take up dual academy role

AndrewJordon479The Trustees of Northern Education Trust (NET) have appointed Andrew Jordon, currently the Executive Principal of Dyke House Sports and Technology College, as the Executive Principal of Dyke House and Thorp Academy in Gateshead, as from January 2017. Mr Jordan, who is a National Leader of Education and leads Dyke House as a Teaching School, will be working with current principal, Jonathan Morris until he retires in December, to manage the transition.

He is an accomplished sportsman and at Dyke House, drawing on his passion for sport and exercise, has been responsible for establishing an Elite Development Squad in partnership with the universities of Durham and Northumbria to enable talented young athletes to fulfil their potential. He has focused on raising the aspirations of young people to aspire to the Ruskin Group and other established universities.

Les Walton CBE, Chair of the Trust, said: “Parents and students can be assured that the future of Thorp Academy is secure with the appointment of Andrew Jordon who, as a National Leader of Education, will bring a strong sense of mission to further raising standards at the academy.”

Bill Purvis, the Chair of Governors, said “We are delighted to have recruited such an outstanding leader as Andrew Jordon. He will bring valuable experience from one of the Trust’s and North East’s most successful academies.”

Mr Jordon said: “I feel privileged to have been appointed by Trustees to lead Thorp Academy. It will be my intention to work closely with Jonathan Morris, the current Principal, over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition into the role as from January 2017. I will spend time getting to know staff and students as well as those leaders in the community who have a vested interest in the success of Thorp Academy.”
