Community Comes Together to Paint the School

Seaton Sluice Middle School has undergone a transformation this summer due to an army

of contractors, community volunteers, local councillors, staff volunteers and the site team who came on site to repaint the school.

All together now

With the nation worrying about the cost of living crisis, and our region’s already existing levels of deprivation rising, remodelling or redecorating schools would likely seem to be at the bottom of a schools priority list.

However Seaton Sluice Middle School, in Whitley Bay worked together with their local community to give their building a transformation over the summer.

It took around 500 hours of hard work and dedication with over 200 litres of paint to get

the school looking just like new.

The school, part of the Seaton Valley Federation, extended thanks to its students and community for their generosity and noted that even Grandmas came along to help paint.

Head of School, Karen McSparron commented:

“I have come into school today and have been blown away at the amount of work that has been done. The painting looks fantastic as do all of the repairs and improvements completed by the team. What a transformation, I can’t believe the difference. Can I express my heartfelt thanks for all of the work of everyone involved in this? A special mention must go to the community volunteers. I am overwhelmed at the generosity of those people who have given up their free time to make this happen. How lovely it is to see our school looking amazing due to these improvements.”

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East said:

“Its great to see North East communities support their schools in times of need. We are so proud to see the hard work of this community give a fresh look to Seaton Sluice Middle School. The small changes, even a fresh lick of paint, go a long way to making students feel valued and proud of their environment. Well done to all the volunteers!”
