Chris Rue wins Outstanding Head Teacher of the Year Award

Congratulations to Chris Rue, Head Teacher at Epinay Business and Enterprise School and Leadership Advisor for Durham Local Authority, for being awarded ‘Outstanding Head Teacher of the Year for the North of England’ at the #EducateNorth Awards.

A shocked Chris accepted the award last week. Chris commented:

“I was totally shocked and surprised with winning the award, more than anything I am so proud and happy that our stakeholders felt that I was doing the best I can for them and our children. The award stems from the inclusive team approach that we strive to achieve each day, I am so fortunate to have such a dedicated team that believed in the journey that I mapped out and had confidence in the vision I had for our children. #teamepinay”

Chris has been Head Teacher at Epinay since January 2017. He has also worked as a teaching assistant, HLTA, Pastoral Manager, Residential Child Care Officer, Teacher, middle leader, Assistant Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, and Head of School. Epinay is a Specialist School based in South Shields, catering for pupils aged 4 to 18 with a wide range of special educational and complex needs.

Additionally, Morpeth Road Academy from WISE Academies was highly commended for the Community Engagement Award. A full list of the Award results can be found here.

Students, Teachers and parents were quick to congratulate Chris back at Epinay, where he received congratulations from his community. One staff member commented:

“Congratulations on your award. This is truly well deserved and recognition for the positive difference you’re making to the lives of students, their families and the whole staff team at Epinay. Epinay goes from strength to strength under your outstanding leadership.”

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East added:

“Well done to Chris for winning the Outstanding Head Teacher of the Year Award. We are thrilled to see him representing the hardworking and talented staff of his school and the children of his local community in getting this prestigious award.”
