Character education on the agenda in PM’s ‘assault on poverty’ social reforms

David Cameron controversially called on state schools to learn from “elite schools” and teach character virtues and resilience.

This is part of a series of social reforms in the Prime Minister’s “all-out assault on poverty”, which also include providing better mental health services and mentoring schemes.

While schools will welcome the Government giving greater focus to PHSE, the suggestion that character virtues are overlooked in mainstream schools was rejected by school leaders.

How can your school embed character virtues and resilience in the curriculum?

Character education is a core part of the SCHOOLS NorthEast annual careers conference – FutureReady – which this year will take place Thursday 4 February.

Dr Tom Harrison, Director of Development for the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, and Ed Fideo, Chief Executive Officer of 21 Trust will share best practice on developing the characteristics, values and habits needed to succeed in the 21st century. Find out more about the fantastic line-up of speakers and the programme we have planned for the day here.
