Character education on the agenda in PM’s ‘assault on poverty’ social reforms
David Cameron controversially called on state schools to learn from “elite schools” and teach character virtues and resilience.
This is part of a series of social reforms in the Prime Minister’s “all-out assault on poverty”, which also include providing better mental health services and mentoring schemes.
While schools will welcome the Government giving greater focus to PHSE, the suggestion that character virtues are overlooked in mainstream schools was rejected by school leaders.
