Astley Community High School continues to be a ‘Good’ School

Following an Ofsted inspection on 10th and 11th December 2024, Ofsted has now confirmed in its report released on 21st January 2025 that Astley Community High School continues to be a GOOD school with effective safeguarding arrangements.

And that’s absolutely worth celebrating.

Senior Leaders, staff, governors and students are understandably delighted with the outcome, and proud of the positive and reaffirming comments from the inspection. Schools North East is proud too!

It is testament to the hard work of all staff and pupils

Comments from the latest report state “Astley Community High School is a close-knit community where pupils are safe and happy.  Pupils are proud to attend the school and enjoy positive relationships with staff. The  school has high expectations for pupils. Staff know pupils well. Pupils are regarded as  individuals. Pastoral care is strong.”

It also highlights that “The curriculum is delivered by subject specialists who explain concepts clearly. Pupils receive the appropriate support and resources to help them produce high-quality work.  Teachers usually ask effective questions to encourage pupils to think deeply. In sixth-form  lessons, students work with high levels of independence.“

“As a highly inclusive school, staff have the same high ambition for pupils with special  educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) as they do for all other pupils. The support  for pupils with SEND is effective” the report goes on to say.

It should come as no surprise that Richard Goodman, Head of School, is proud of the comments made by Ofsted. Richard said: “It is testament to the hard work of all staff and pupils that inspectors have rightly acknowledged the inclusive nature of the school, the positive relationships and the effective way pupils are prepared for the future.”

It’s always brilliant when Ofsted recognises brilliance

John Barnes, Executive Head Teacher of Seaton Valley Federation, acknowledged the affirmation in the report that highlights “Staff say they feel supported by leaders. They appreciate the ways that their well-being  and workload are prioritised. Skilled and knowledgeable governors understand and fulfil their duties. Leaders have an accurate understanding of the school’s strengths and areas for improvement.”

He further commented, “I am extremely proud of our school, its staff and students.  Our staff team is dedicated to providing the best possible outcomes for all students and I would like to thank them for their support in making this a fantastic and inclusive school.

“I am glad that Ofsted have recognised the great work that occurs in Astley Community High School.”

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “We are incredibly proud of Astley Community High School’s recent Ofsted success and the positive impact they have on the lives of young people in our region. This ‘Good’ rating is a well-deserved recognition of the high-quality education and nurturing environment provided by all staff.”
