‘Amazing’ results at St Mary’s Catholic School

Year 11 students at St Mary’s Catholic School in Newcastle have enjoyed enormous success in their GCSE and vocational qualifications with excellent performances across all subjects this year. The school is delighted with their amazing results, which are testament to the high quality of the teaching at St Mary’s and to the dedication, commitment, and sheer hard work of their students.

80% of students achieved at least a grade 4 in both English and Maths with 61% of students achieving at least a grade 5 in both. 27% of students achieved the top grades of 7 or above in both English and Maths. Nearly 40% of all grades were 7+ with over 80% of grades 4+. The school expects these results to continue to be amongst the highest in the region for raw attainment and significantly higher than the national average. Students have made excellent progress at St Mary’s and achieved fantastic exam results.

All the students have done very well, including Rosalind, who is continuing her studies at St Mary’s. Rosalind said:

“I am so happy with my results; all my hard work has paid off. My teachers have been really supportive, and I am looking forward to starting my A Levels in September. Another successful student, Joe said ‘I am delighted with my results as I have done well enough to get my place on an apprenticeship course, studying to be an electrician. I have made some great memories at St Mary’s. Thank you to my family and teachers who helped me be successful.”

Another success came from Jerusalem who said:

“I am really ecstatic with my grades, I got what I needed for sixth form, and I could not believe it when I opened the envelope. I could not have done it without everyone’s support.”

Head Teacher Emma Patterson said:

“We are very proud of our wonderful students for their tremendous GCSE results.  The students have demonstrated exceptional commitment and hard work throughout their studies and fully deserve these outstanding results.  Our GCSE results continue to be significantly above national standards in all areas.  Students have worked very hard, with a determined approach, and have been richly rewarded for their efforts.  We could not be prouder of our students.  Many thanks also to our superb teaching and support staff team for supporting our students so well and embedding such high-quality teaching and learning at St Mary’s”.
