Clarification on KS 1 and 2 teacher assessment published, following teaching unions backlash
The Standards & Testing Agency (STA) published a clarification on Key Stage 1 and 2 assessment and moderation, following serious backlash from teaching unions.
The guidance for schools and local authorities includes information about:
•the teacher assessment submission date change
•evidence to support teacher assessment judgements at the end of a key stage
•KS2 writing ‘working at the expected standard’ Morgan and Leigh examples
•handwriting for KS1 and KS2
•using exemplification materials for KS1 and KS2
•exclamation and use of an exclamation mark for KS1 and KS2
•the LA moderation process
•Ofsted and regional school commissioners treatment of the interim TA frameworks.
Last month, Schools Minister Nick Gibb agreed to change the deadline for primary assessments after the Department for Education was given a one-week ultimatum by the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT).
The deadline is now 30 June for both Key Stage 1 and 2, for 2016 only. The DfE mentioned this is the result of a “series of constructive conversations” between the department and a union. Read our initial report here.
