Exceptional GCSE performances as Conyers students celebrate success
A STUDENT who was born in Luxembourg and raised in Singapore has found success on Teesside with the help of his school and Oxford University.
James Auger, a student at Conyers School, Yarm, has just been awarded 12 GCSEs including a phenomenal 11 grade 9s. He will now study A levels in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry.

The 16-year-old moved from Singapore two years ago joining Conyers’ Year 10 cohort, where he studied with the help of COMPOS – the Comprehensive Oxford Mathematics and Physics Online School.
On top of normal lessons, James joined the Oxford University outreach programme allowing him to take a deeper look at subjects not included in the mainstream GCSE curriculum, joining weekly online tutorials and completing extra assignments.
He said: “I enjoy maths and it opens up a lot of opportunities. After my A levels, the dream would be to go to Oxford University and then become an A level teacher or professor.
“I’m also musical and love to sing, classical and pop, and I’d like to get involved in performing arts.”
Other exceptional individual performances include Luca P who achieved 13 grade 9s, Arina W who gained 11 grade 9s and three grade 8s, Rafael F who achieved eight grade 9s and four grade 8s, Olivia B who gained eight grade 9s and one grade 8, Aaryan A who achieved six grade 9s and five grade 8s and Isobel M who gained three grade 9s and eight grade 8s.
Following on from their exceptional A Level outcomes last week, Conyers School and Sixth Form achieved almost 25 per cent of grades grade 7 or above, with 75 per cent of students achieving a grade 4 or above in both maths and English.
Head of Conyers Chris Coleman said: “We are thrilled for our students and incredibly proud of everything they have achieved. There are some exceptional individual results, but today is really about celebrating the success of the whole year group and the hard work, ambition and resilience they have shown.
“James is a wonderful example of that breadth. He has pursued his passion for maths and science to an exceptional level while also making the most of his interests in music and performing arts. We want our students to discover what they are good at, develop their talents and leave us with the confidence and qualifications to pursue whatever comes next.
“These outcomes follow the excellent A Level results achieved by our Sixth Form students last week and reflect what we want for every young person at Conyers: a broad, ambitious education, academic excellence and the opportunity to progress to brilliant destinations.
“None of this happens in isolation. I want to congratulate our students, but also thank our staff for the expertise, care and high expectations they bring every day, and our families for the enormous support they give our young people.”
