Talent and Ambition Shine Through at St Mary’s
Year 13 students at St Mary’s Catholic School in Newcastle are celebrating another year of exceptional success in their A-Level and BTEC qualifications.
Excellent performances have been recorded across the full range of academic and vocational subjects, reflecting both the talent and determination of this year’s cohort and the school’s sustained commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.
More than 20 students achieved at least three A or A* grades, or Distinction and Distinction* grades, across their Level 3 qualifications, with many more securing strong results across their chosen programmes of study.
The school, part of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, credits these achievements to the talent, resilience, and academic ambition of the students, paired with the consistently high-quality teaching, personalised guidance, and pastoral support provided by staff throughout their time at St Mary’s.
Students are now preparing to continue their education at leading universities, including the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, University College London, Edinburgh, Durham, Manchester, Leeds, and many other Russell Group and high-achieving institutions.
The school is particularly proud to see so many students moving on to study highly competitive and respected courses such as Engineering, Natural Sciences, Medicine, Law, Artificial Intelligence, Economics and Mathematics, Pharmacy, Architecture, Optometry, and Social Work.
Alongside those progressing to university, many students are successfully pursuing apprenticeships, employment, and further training. The school noted it is equally proud of every student taking a positive next step that reflects their individual talents and aspirations.
“We are enormously proud of every one of our Year 13 students,” said Headteacher Emma Patterson. “These results are the culmination of years of sustained effort, and our young people have approached their studies with remarkable determination, maturity and resilience. Our students have achieved excellent outcomes across both academic and vocational courses, including some truly exceptional individual performances.
“Just as importantly, the breadth of their destinations demonstrates the ambition of this remarkable group of young people. Today is an opportunity to celebrate how much our students have grown and all that they have contributed to the life of St Mary’s. They leave us as confident, compassionate and ambitious young adults, ready to use their gifts and talents.
“I would also like to thank our outstanding teaching and support staff for their expertise, encouragement and dedication. The high-quality teaching and pastoral care they provide have played an essential role in helping our students to fulfil their potential. My thanks also go to our students’ families for the invaluable support they have provided throughout their time with us. We wish all our departing Year 13 students every success as they begin the next stage of their lives.”
