Longbenton High School celebrates another successful year of GCSE results

Students and staff at Longbenton High School are celebrating another successful year of GCSE results, with many individual stories of achievement and progress.

★ The average grade across all entries is a strong grade 5, demonstrating the resilience and commitment of our students. Half of all students achieved grade 5 or above, reflecting high standards of attainment across the curriculum.

★ Nearly 70% secured a grade 4 pass, with our students performing above the national and North East averages.

★ Nearly 60% of students achieved a grade 4 or higher in English and Maths.

Almost 20% of all grades were at grade 7 or above, a notable increase on previous years and above the North East average.

Today’s GCSE results highlight the unique challenges and shifting trends faced by the 2025 cohort. As the first year group to begin secondary school during the Covid pandemic, students have continued to feel the effects of disrupted learning, missing out on the end of primary and KS2 SATs, with gaps in knowledge, and sometimes long-lasting impacts on their wellbeing.

A significant number of students are joining the Sixth Form here in September, many of our Year 11 students are returning, joined by students coming to us from other local schools. Enrolment takes place today and tomorrow; for more information please contact our sixth form team at sixthform@longbenton.org.uk or lhs@longbenton.org.uk.

Students from our Sixth Form this year went on to Oxbridge, St Andrews, Medicine etc – proving that students who stay here go on to achieve highly beyond GCSE. Our next Open Evening for prospective parents and students is Tuesday 23rd September 2025.
