Whole School Jerusalema Dance Challenge!

On Thursday 29 April, pupils and staff at Seaton Sluice Middle School took part in the Jerusalema Dance Challenge to celebrate International Dance Day.

Miss Staines, a teacher at Seaton Sluice Middle School organised the event helping pupils and staff to learn the dance through a series of videos of people from around the world doing the Jerusalema Dance Challenge. The dance craze was started by a group of friends in Angola and has helped to spread a little cheer during lockdown. Now people from all around the world are taking on the dance challenge including all of the pupils and staff at Seaton Sluice Middle School!

During the week of International Dance Day pupils were introduced to the challenge via a virtual assembly and then learned the dance in PE lessons over the following days. A video tutorial was provided so that pupils could do some extra practice at home and in the schoolyard before the whole school got together outside for a collective performance!

Miss Staines said: “The challenge has brought the whole school together; working as a team and having some well earned fun after a very challenging year.”

Pupil Ella said: “Today has been absolutely amazing, I’ve loved it. Thanks so much to Miss Staines for organising it all.”

Karen Mc Sparron, Head of School at SSMS said: “This has been a brilliant way of bringing the school together as a community to have some much needed fun!”

John Barnes, Executive Headteacher, Seaton Valley Federation said: “After all the young people have been through over the last year or so to have an event like this which enables them to have fun and do something different is fantastic. I would like to thank all the pupils and staff who took part in the dance and especially Miss Staines for organising it.”
