Westfield Students Celebrate A-Level Success as Part of the RGS Newcastle Group of Schools
Westfield School is celebrating outstanding A-Level success as students collect their results and prepare for exciting futures at leading universities, in degree apprenticeships and varied career pathways.

Today’s results mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Westfield, following the successful merger with the Royal Grammar School Newcastle, in June.
The landmark merger secured Westfield’s future as a distinctive independent school offering families something truly unique within the North East independent school sector: the warmth and individual care of a small school, coupled with the confidence, security and strength of the RGS Newcastle Group.
This year’s Westfield cohort achieved:
30% A* to A grades
55% A* to B grades
86% A* to C grades
96% pass rate or better
88% secured their first-choice destination
Headmaster Neil Walker reflects on today’s results:
“What makes these results especially meaningful is the wide range of journeys our students have taken to get here, having benefitted from the personalised support and tailored teaching that a smaller school can provide.”

We are so proud of what each and every one of our girls has achieved so far and look forward to seeing what their futures hold.”
Westfield’s Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Hannah Morell, believes that helping students make the right subject choices is fundamental to their success:

Poppy: From the prospect of no GCSEs to Glasgow School of Art
Poppy J – Art A*, Drama B, English Literature C
Before joining Westfield in Year 9, Poppy, who has autism, had struggled in educational settings that did not fully meet her needs, including a local specialist provision where she had been told to expect a maximum of three GCSEs. Supported by Westfield’s nurturing environment and personalised approach to learning, Poppy went on to achieve nine GCSEs, become Deputy Head Girl and has now secured a place at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art to study Fine Art. Today she is celebrating grades A*, B and C at A-Level and looking ahead to an incredibly bright future.
Reflecting on her journey, Poppy said: “At one point, I didn’t think I was going to go to Sixth Form or anything like that, so I’m amazed and thrilled to be here.”
She added: “Westfield is a smaller school, the teachers care and they want you to do your best. They want you to get good grades and I really appreciated that support.”
Poppy’s mum Kelly credits her daughter’s success to Westfield’s distinctive teaching model: “Poppy has over fulfilled her potential and that is all credit to the tailored support she has received at Westfield”
Agnes: From Hong Kong to Newcastle Stellar A-Level Success
Agnes L – Maths A, Chemistry A, Further Maths B, Physics B.
When Agnes arrived in Newcastle from Hong Kong at the age of 14, she faced the challenge of adapting to a new country, a different education system and studying in a second language.
Westfield’s small classes and supportive environment enabled her to thrive. So much so, that she achieved an A grade in A-Level Maths a year early.
“My teachers recognised that I was capable of doing it. They created a plan for me so I could work independently and progress more quickly.”
Today Agnes is celebrating 3 more stellar A-Level results and is progressing to study Civil Engineering at the prestigious Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Agnes said: “I am so so happy. I can’t believe I got an A in Chemistry! This is just amazing.”
Laura: From Shy Pupil to Future Engineer
Laura F – Maths A*, Further Maths A, Physics A, Religious Studies B, EPQ A*
For Laura, Westfield provided the confidence and encouragement to discover her strengths and exceed her own expectations.
Having joined the school as a shy Year 7 pupil who felt lost in previous larger educational settings, she now leaves school with exceptional A-Level results and a place to study Engineering at Durham University. “At the moment I’m particularly interested in renewable energy, but I’m looking forward to exploring different areas.”
Reflecting on her journey Laura recalls:”Before I came to Westfield, I felt a bit lost in the crowd. When I moved here, I started achieving much closer to what I was actually capable of.”
“I always enjoyed Maths, but I didn’t realise how good I was at it until I came to Westfield.” Today she leaves school with an A* in Maths and an A grade in Further Maths.
Amy: From EHCP to Future Scientist
Amy D – Biology A, Chemistry B, Art A*, IT Distinction*, EPQ A
Amy joined Westfield in Year 3 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Today she leaves with a set of outstanding A-Level results, and a place to study Environmental Science at Leeds University.
Amy’s progress at Westfield was so significant that her EHCP was officially removed by Year 9, reflecting both her determination and the impact of an educational environment built around individual support.
Reflecting on her journey Amy said: “When I first joined the school, I needed to settle down a bit and required some support to do that. You get a lot of one-to-one support and pastoral care at Westfield.”
Amy’s story demonstrates how tailored teaching and close pastoral support can unlock extraordinary outcomes for young people.
Today’s results provide compelling evidence of the unique role Westfield continues to play in the North East educational landscape: providing an environment where every child is known, understood and supported to become the very best version of themselves.
