Seven NE teachers shortlisted for Let Teachers SHINE 2019

Seven North East teachers have been shortlisted for the Let Teachers Shine 2019 Awards.

The region had the highest number of shortlisted entries outside of the South East which was dominated by entries from London.

Let Teachers SHINE, is an annual national funding competition run by SHINE Trust. The competition provides funding to any qualified, practising teacher in England who has a great idea to raise attainment in English, maths and science. Winners are supported to trial their project, and if their idea has an impact on attainment, to scale the project up so that it can benefit children most in need.

Fiona Spellman, CEO, said “I would like to personally congratulate to our shortlisted candidates this year, the standard of innovative ideas was exceptional.”

The candidates from the region are:

  • Debi BaileyVulnerable Leaners, Cross-curricular, Newcastle East mixed multi Academy Trust, Newcastle upon Tyne
  • John BeeMathematical Vocabulary, Maths, Parkhead Primary School, Tyne and Wear
  • Jonathan KayInnovative and Efficient Assessment in Maths, Maths, Hartlepool College of Further Education, Durham
  • Laura MurrayMaths Language Development, Maths, Barbara Priestman Academy, Sunderland
  • Lucy FlanaganSIMPLE Science: Animals and Humans, Science, Victoria Lane Academy, Durham
  • Rebecca BlakeyPlanet Starshine, Science, New York Primary School, North Shields

Winners will be announced in July 2019.
