Emma Brown
Emma is the EYFS Lead at Barnwell Academy, with 13 years of teaching experience. Over this time, she has developed a strong understanding of supporting young children and their families, particularly those with SEND, EAL, and a wide range of additional needs.
She is particularly passionate about supporting speech, language, and communication development in the Early Years. Emma has led the implementation of approaches such as Talk Boost, BLAST, Helicopter Stories, SHREC, and sustained shared thinking to create a language-rich environment where all children can thrive. She works closely with Speech and Language Therapists and have shaped their provision and daily practice to ensure communication is at the heart of everything they do.
Alongside leading an inclusive, skills-based curriculum, Emma supports and coach staff to embed these approaches in meaningful, practical ways. She is committed to sharing strategies that are realistic and impactful for busy classrooms. Emma has also supported the local authority by sharing this work on BBC News and as part of a recent SEND award nomination, highlighting the importance of early communication and inclusive practice.
