Whitworth Park Academy achieve 10% above the National Average in English

Whitworth Park Academy, in Spennymoor, are celebrating their best ever set of GCSE results this summer. Whitwork is part of the Advance Learning Partnership.

Record numbers

The school sees the results as a culmination of the incredible hard work from students, staff and support from parents. Through tenacity, resilience and hard work, the average grade per student has gone up by two whole grades in comparison to the school’s 2019 results which was the last time the Nation sat official examinations.

Whitworth Park Academy is also marking a record number of Grade 8s and 9s with a total of 30 GCSE grade 9s and 46 Level Two Distinction Stars in the vocational subjects.

The school achieved 77 Grade 8s in GCSE subjects and 75 Level Two Distinctions in the vocational subjects. The school is particularly proud of the achievements in English which has seen an average grade increase of two grades per student since 2019.

Whitworth Park students achieved 87.8% Grade 4or above in English which is 10% above the National Average. Alongside English, results in Mathsand Science continue to rise on an upward trajectory meaning that students are well-equipped for their all-important next steps.

Head Teacher David Stone said:

“I am proud of the achievements of our students who have worked with high levels of commitment and diligence since the start of their GCSE studies and despite the challenges that COVID presented, have continued to work with motivation and determination to achieve these outstanding results. I am also grateful to all our parents who have worked with us to support their children with their studies and who today can share in this success”.

The school is looking forward to opening its doors to all students in September for another year where students thrive both academically and personally.
