Well wishes for a fantastic cohort at St. Bede’s Catholic School and Byron Sixth Form

St. Bede’s Catholic School and Byron Sixth Form are celebrating the achievements of their students today. The school, part of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, expressed their delight for the students who have had a tough academic journey, with the pressures of COVID creating challenges for the past three years. 

St Bede’s said: 

“They are a fantastic cohort who have displayed exceptional resilience, fortitude and drive over their academic journey here”

The leavers are heading to a wide range of academically renowned institutions across the UK, as well as other routes such as Degree Apprenticeships and employment. The students are a true testament to the power of education and the calibre of St. Bede’s and Byron’s  curriculum and staff.

Unrestricted Ambition

Within the cohort, 72% of students secured at least one A*/A grade with 48% achieving at least two A*/A grades. They are  particularly proud that their curriculum challenges students to the highest levels of academic success, with 10% of all grades being A*. A reflection of the schools unrestricted ambition for all of their students.

A high proportion of students are heading to Russell Group universities, including Durham, Manchester, Exeter, Glasgow, Dundee, Leeds and Newcastle to read courses including computer science, history and politics, English literature and radiography.

Students of particular achievement are:

  • Hollie Akers, securing A*A*A* to read History at Durham, University 
  • Ellie White, achieving A*AA to read Mathematics at Manchester University
  • Olivia Brown, achieving AAA to purse Modern Foreign Languages at Durham University
  • Lucy English achieving formidable results of A* Distinction* Distinction*.

This year’s cohort have chosen a diverse range of destinations, with Ben Masters pursuing a Degree Apprenticeship in Digital & Technology Solutions through world renowned firm, Accenture, learning and earning simultaneously through a partnership with Newcastle University.

Tom Hilton, has also performed exceptionally and of particular note, achieving A*A*A to attend the University of St Andrews to study Medicine, despite numerous challenges over the course of his education. Tom was one of the first generation of Ambition Scholars at St Bede’s & Byron Sixth Form.

St Bede’s and Byron commented: 

“To our class of 2022, we, the entire school community, would like to thank you for your passion, determination and hard work during your time within our school. We know you are all going to make massive contributions in your respective fields to grow into leaders of the future – we are so proud of you, best of luck!”
