Wallsend Primary School Surprise Children with Mural
A Teaching Assistant has created a special mural for children returning to St Peter’s C of E Primary School in Wallsend as some children return to school.
Teaching Assistant, Mrs Roberts, used the time in which the school was open during the school closures faze of lockdown to paint an animal-themed mural in the area where the early years children wash their hands. The idea for this was to encourage the children to wash their hands regularly with soap and water as well as doing this for 20 seconds by giving them something which is enjoyable to look at. This seemingly was a big hit with the reception pupils who were able to see the mural on their return to school on 8th June with one of the pupils saying “I love it! I love looking at the animals while I’m washing my hands.” The design incorporated the circular window which is in the early years area to make the mural based on the Noah’s Ark story from the bible which is in keeping with the Church of England values which the school holds.
On their time during lockdown and the return of the children to school, Head Teacher, Elizabeth Bilton said:
“Our ethos of ‘loving God, loving others and be the best that we can be’ has been promoted throughout lockdown and as school is reopening to more pupils. During this period staff have been looking after children of key workers and vulnerable children in school; posting learning online for all pupils at home and have also delivered paper copies of learning packs to those unable to access them online. They have also made up food parcels and delivered them to families in the school community. Through telephone and email conversations we have been able to communicate with all families and it is lovely to be able to welcome more of them back to school.”
