University beckons for pupils as Newcastle High School celebrates A Level success

Newcastle High School for Girls (NHSG) is celebrating another successful A Level results day meaning that pupils from the School will be excitedly taking up their places at university next month.

With NHSG’s A Level pass rate at 100%, around half of all grades attained are at A* or A  and an exceptional 24% are at the highest possible grade of A*.

Michael Tippett, Head at NHSG, says that this year’s results are all the more impressive given the added pressures of Covid-19 that impacted the last two years of study. Micheal commented:

“It’s been three years since pupils nationally have had the opportunity to sit public examinations, and indeed, this is the first set of public exams completed by this cohort as a consequence. Pupils during this time have faced unprecedented challenges and a great deal of uncertainty alongside the usual pressures of academic study.

The resilience all pupils have shown at schools up and down the country has been outstanding, and I am of course especially proud of the girls at Newcastle High who have worked incredibly hard over the past two years.

Now, after an anxious wait, it’s time for celebrations, and I wholeheartedly applaud these amazing young women who are about to embark on the next exciting stage of their academic journey, and of course the NHSG staff who have continued to support them during these extraordinary times.”

The pupils from NHSG receiving their results today will be attending universities from across the United Kingdom and embarking on a wide-ranging set of courses including Medicine, Dentistry, Environmental Sciences, Modern Languages, Politics, Fashion Marketing and Dance.

Michael added:

“I passionately believe that an all-girl education provides the perfect environment for girls to achieve without limits, and the results seen across our school are testament to this. This year’s leavers have left an inspirational legacy to future cohorts of NHSG girls and I can’t wait to see how each and every one of them shape their own futures and ours!”
