Tory race may mean extra year of school funding crisis
A government review into school funding that was to launch before the summer break is now likely to be delayed by a year due to the Tory leadership race, despite a number of hopeful leadership candidates pledging to increase school funding.
Liz Truss, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, has attributed the cause of the delay to the fact that the new prime minister would want to make decisions about government spending.
Candidates putting higher school funding at the centre of their leadership campaigns include the current favourite Boris Johnson, who has pledged to improve the level of per pupil funding, as well as the former Education Secretary Michael Gove, Esther McVey, and the Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
