St. John’s Sixth Form student Jack Reynolds swaps stage for Oxford University!

We’re delighted to share truly inspiring news about St. John’s Sixth Form student, Jack Reynolds.

While he’ll be stepping back from the school’s highly anticipated production of Frozen this year, the reason behind it is an exceptional one: Jack has been offered a prestigious place on the Oxford University UNIQ residential program!

This esteemed outreach initiative provides talented students with invaluable insight into life at one of the world’s leading universities, marking a significant achievement for Jack.

Turning passion into tangible action

Jack Reynolds, a gifted performer and dedicated academic, is pursuing his ambition to study Experimental Psychology at Oxford University following Sixth Form.

His passion for psychology is evident through his proactive engagement; he’s already gained valuable experience in both academic research and applied psychological fields, such as sports psychology, through work experience at Durham University’s Psychology department.

Not stopping there, he’s enrolled in the Durham Supported Progression program, which includes a summer residential opportunity to study Psychology at Durham in late July.

Well-rounded character, strong community spirit, and clear academic ambition

Beyond his impressive academic pursuits, Jack is also a committed CAFOD Young Leader, actively contributing to raising awareness and funds for the international development charity.

He recently completed the program, receiving his certificate at a ceremony held at Romero House in London. This year, Jack plans to undertake the Great North Run to generate further funds for CAFOD and recently volunteered at the national FLAME youth event in March.

Additionally, Jack is currently completing his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, showcasing his remarkable dedication, leadership, and commitment to personal development.

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “Jack has achieved so much already, and his motivation and determination positions him as an exemplary role model for younger students across the region and beyond.

“We extend our warmest congratulations to Jack on these outstanding accomplishments and wish him every success in his future endeavors!”

Matt Dunn, Head of Sixth Form, encapsulated Jack’s qualities perfectly: “Jack embodies everything we value at St. John’s – curiosity, compassion, and commitment.

“While we’ll miss his presence on stage this year, we are incredibly proud of his achievements and the bright future he’s building.”
