Speakers announced for evidence-based education conference

SCHOOLS NorthEast is delighted to announce internationally acclaimed education expert Professor Stephen Gorard as the keynote speaker for its forthcoming White Working Class event on 9 March.

Prof. Gorard’s work concerns the robust evaluation of education as a lifelong process, focused on issues of equity and effectiveness. He is the author of nearly 1,000 books and papers and will shortly be publishing the most comprehensive evaluation of school-based interventions and the evidence of what works and what doesn’t.

He regularly gives advice to governments and policy-makers, including oral and written advice to the House of Commons Education Committee every year since 2003.

We will also be joined by top DfE adviser Dr Tim Leunig who is responsible for ensuring that the department’s policies and decisions are informed by the best scientific evidence.

This conference forms part of a wider programme of work by SCHOOLS NorthEast, aimed at making the North East a hub for evidence-based excellence in education. The event will be followed up by further school-led research into the issues and ideas uncovered during the day.

‘White Working Class: how can schools tackle underachievement and raise attainment?’ is a full day conference, bringing school leaders from across the North East together to discuss the specific challenges and barriers to education faced by students from white working class communities.
