Seaton Sluice Middle School continues to be a ‘Good’ school, Ofsted confirms

When the going gets good… you need to keep it up! And that’s exactly what Seaton Sluice Middle School did with their latest Ofsted review.

Following an intensive two day inspection at the end of the Summer Term, Ofsted released a report on 11 September that confirmed this school continues to be ‘Good’.

What a fantastic result!

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “The entire team at Schools North East is thrilled to hear that Seaton Sluice Middle School has had another successful Ofsted review.

“We know it can be a trying time for everybody involved, but results like this one make all the effort and hard work so, so worth it! Congratulations, everyone.”

New inspection framework, same great result

This particular Ofsted inspection marked the first for Seaton Sluice Middle School under the new inspection framework, which was introduced in September 2019.

Staff worked hard to ensure that the thorough two day inspection was a success, and agree that maintaining their ‘Good’ status is a well deserved outcome for all staff and students.

Comments from the latest report state “Pupils at Seaton Sluice Middle School are proud of their school community. They say that everyone is welcome and teachers will always help them to do their best. Inspectors agree.”

The report also highlights that “Pupils display excellent behaviour in lessons and at social times” and that “Pupils who struggle to meet the school’s high expectations are supported well.”

Those are exactly the type of things we want to broadcast as widely as possible about our region’s schools.

The report goes on to outline that “Pupils’ understanding of both written and spoken language is a priority for leaders” and that “Pupils’ personal development is a strength of the school. A well-planned and broad personal, social, and health education curriculum is in place.”

The positivity continued with Ofsted also stating that “The school has a strong focus on keeping pupils safe. Staff know pupils well but are not complacent.”

Head of School, Karen McSparron, said: “It is an excellent report and everyone should be very proud of their hard work and contribution towards this outcome.

“I feel this report is completely deserved and is a true reflection of what goes on here every day. A report with so many positive comments reflects the dedication, enthusiasm and effort from our school team”

John Barnes, Executive Headteacher, Seaton Valley Federation added: “I am delighted with this report and am extremely proud of the school, staff and students.

“It recognises what an amazing school this is and I would like to thank all staff and pupils who work daily to make this school as fantastic as the report confirms.”

Congratulations again to everyone involved. Ofsted might say you’re ‘good’… but we know you’re really outstanding!
