Schools wanted for North East LEP Enterprise Adviser programme
The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (North East LEP) is responsible for delivering the Enterprise Adviser network initiative in our region: a national programme aiming to improve young peoples’ interactions with the world of work.
The network of Enterprise Advisers is the cornerstone of The Career and Enterprise Company’s national programme. Advisers are part of a nationwide network of high calibre volunteers with experience of employment or self employment. They work closely with a North East LEP Enterprise Co-ordinator to support schools and colleges in navigating the range of possible employer interactions. The ultimate goal is for them to work closely with a school’s leadership team to create a whole school strategy for careers, enterprise and employer engagement.
The LEP has already recruited over 30 Enterprise Advisers from a broad range of business sectors, all of which have the same aim of supporting schools and colleges in the North East region. They are now looking for more schools, based within the North East LEP area, to take part.
Denis Heaney, Enterprise Co-ordinator at the LEP, said, “The potential benefits on both sides are immense. We know that by strengthening links between education and businesses we can make sure pupils are better prepared and equipped to make informed careers choices.
“Schools can take advantage of business leaders’ industry knowledge, expertise and commitment to supporting careers provision within education and helping young people make a successful transition into the world of work.”
Steve Gibson, Principal of the Northumberland C of E Academy Secondary School, one of the first schools to get on board, added, “It is vital for schools to work in partnership with employers to ensure that our young people are fully prepared for their future education and careers.”
Schools that would like to take part in this exciting initiative should contact Denis Heaney, denis.heaney@nelep.co.uk or call 0191 338 7420.
