Nunthorpe School and Sixth Form celebrates strong A Level results and student success
Nunthorpe School and Sixth Form is celebrating a strong set of post-16 results, with Year 13 students achieving an overall average grade of C+ across all Level 3 qualifications.
This year, 86.3% of students achieved a Best 3 A-level outcome, with 54.4% of all grades awarded at Grade B or above. Students studying Applied General qualifications achieved an outstanding 100% Distinction* rate, highlighting the breadth of achievement across the sixth form.
Among those celebrating is Teesside weightlifting champion Niamh Malcolm, who achieved the grades she needed to pursue her ambition of becoming an Army nurse.
Niamh discovered weightlifting after joining Nunthorpe and went on to qualify for the 2025 British Championships, where she won bronze, before taking gold at the English Under 20s Championships. She credits the sport with helping her develop the discipline and resilience that supported her through her A-Levels.
“I learned how to steadily work at something to improve, which helped me prepare for my A-Levels,” said Niamh. “Everyone at the school has been really supportive, especially my teachers.”
Niamh will now begin Army Basic Training at Pirbright before going on to study Nursing at the University of Birmingham and join the British Army Nurses. She also hopes to continue competing in weightlifting, with ambitions to represent Great Britain in the future.
Headteacher Mark Gray said: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students and the results they have achieved today. These results reflect their hard work, resilience and commitment, and we are delighted to celebrate their achievements with them.
“Behind every set of results is an individual student, their aspirations and their own journey. Niamh is a fantastic example of the determination and character our students demonstrate, both inside and outside the classroom.
“We wish the Class of 2026 every success as they take their next steps, whether that is university, apprenticeships, employment or further education.”
Nunthorpe’s Year 13 students are progressing to a wide range of destinations, including universities such as Cambridge, as well as courses in Medicine and Veterinary Science.
The school would like to congratulate the entire Class of 2026 and thank its staff, parents and carers for the support and encouragement they have provided throughout the students’ sixth form journey.
