Northern Education Trust makes five new appointments

The Northern Education Trust (NET), one of the largest multi-academy, not-for-profit trusts in northern England, has recently made five key appointments as it adds further weight to its senior leadership team.

In the 11-18 years sector, Jonathan Morris, who has over 30 years of experience in North East secondary schools, joins Thorp Academy in Ryton, Tyne and Wear as executive principal and Sarah Ramsden, moves from Dyke House Academy in Hartlepool, another NET academy, where she was vice principal, to take over the role of principal at The Blyth Academy in Northumberland.

At primary level, Lesley Heathcote joins NET as principal at Merlin Top Primary Academy in Keighley, West Yorkshire from St Stephens Primary School in Bradford; Emme Ford has taken over the role of principal at Abbey Park Primary Academy in Halifax after proving herself in an interim role at the school, while  Delyth Roberts has been promoted to the role of acting principal at Southmere Primary Academy in Bradford.

Additionally, Tom Grieveson, a former senior HMI who joined the inspectorate in 2005, working in the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside region of Ofsted, has joined the NET Board.

Tom has led many high profile inspections in different areas of England with a particular specialism of working to improve schools in Ofsted categories of concern including academies.  Prior to joining HMI, he spent 12 years as a headteacher before moving to senior positions in local authorities including as head of service.

Ian Kershaw, NET’s chief executive, commented:  “As a multi-academy trust with a reputation for taking on academies in difficulty, the impact of high quality leadership within our academy network is massive and should never be underestimated.

“For this reason, we are very pleased to welcome all our new appointments to the team and look forward to working with them to ensure that as a Trust, we continue to go from strength to strength.”

Northern Education Trust, which is based on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne, operates 20 academies in the North East and North West of England – ten secondary and ten primary academies.  It was established in September 2012.
