North East schools return for a fresh start and new possibilities!

And breathe. The first full week of 2024 is coming to an end. That wasn’t so bad, was it?

The Christmas break, as always, seemed to have come and gone in a twinkle. One minute we’re lounging on the sofa, nibbling on Celebrations with no idea what day it is, and the next thing you know, we’re setting our alarm for 06:00 and suddenly an assortment of cheese isn’t a normal snack…

However you spent your precious time across the Christmas break, we hope it was everything you needed to start 2024 a happier, more peaceful version of yourself.

2024 is the year of putting yourself first

We know it’s cliché, but with a new year comes a fresh start and new possibilities, and how can we not smile at that? This is especially crucial in the education sector, when it feels like we need a fresh start every three weeks…

So, let’s embrace the thrill of new beginnings, the promise of blank notebooks and boundless potential! “Success is not final; failure is not fatal; it’s the courage to continue that counts.”

It’s also important to recognise that these new opportunities don’t start and end in the workplace, either. Set yourself professional goals, of course, but don’t forget to look after the ‘you’ that exists when you’re not at work.

You can’t inspire if you’re not inspired

2024 is the year of impressive Ofsted inspections, dramatic improvements to attendance, and better pupil behaviour. Sure, if those are your professional goals. Go for it!

However, it’s also the year of practising a better sleep routine, doing something you enjoy at least once a day, and staying connected to loved ones.

You can’t inspire if you’re not inspired, and we must realise that there’s a direct correlation to hitting our goals personally and hitting our goals professionally.

‘Self-care’ is a term tossed around like a leaf in a hurricane, but it’s time to understand what it really means.

Putting yourself first sometimes is not selfish and it’s not indulgent! It’s an investment. Listen to what your mind and body needs and be generous in your offerings.

Let’s rewrite the narrative and fill our calendars with “nap time” and “dinner with friends” with the same intensity we give to deadlines and meetings. As a result, we should see all aspects of our lives improve.

2024 is the year of you!
