North East schools inspire parents
Schools across the North East are seeing some incredible messages of thanks and appreciation from parents for the support that they have provided during the ongoing crisis, as well as an increase in respect generally for the region’s teaching profession.
Research by ITV has shown that 43% of parents say they have a newfound appreciation and respect for school teachers after their attempts at homeschooling their children. Of those surveyed, 25% find maths the most difficult to teach. Unsurprisingly, no respondents planned to continue homeschooling!
The bravest scared mum
A parent with young children at Beech Hill Primary in Newcastle sent a message to thank the school for everything they had done. The parent said ‘I am really struggling with everyday things which we all took for granted daily. I’m a single mum and during the current situation simple things such as shopping I now find difficult as I have the children and online shops seem to have such an increase and it could be a 3 week wait for delivery.’
She went on to say ‘Thank you to all the amazing staff at Beech Hill for all their support throughout all of the years all my children have attended not just during these times of uncertainty. I thank you all for putting your health at risk to look after my babies, while I put my health at risk to help others.
I know I’m going into the hospitals or community nursing and it will be sooner and this scares me, but I will be the bravest scared mum I can be.’
Key workers able to keep going
Mum Stacey Turnbull has two children, Mia, 10 and Dylan, 8, at Stephenson Memorial Primary in North Tyneside, who have been attending as children of key workers. Stacey is a Sister in the NHS and her husband is a police officer. Stacey is grateful for the school’s support and said that they would not have been able to keep working without it.
Stacey said ‘I have on occasion been kept later and have been a little late to pick the kids up. The teachers have always been understanding. I’ m sure they have lots they need to do but they never show it. After a busy shift I am alway met by a smile at the school door and they always take time to ask how myself and my husband are.’
The kids at first felt a bit hard done to going to school when their friends get to stay home but after the first day they have really enjoyed it. We as a family would like to say a huge thanks to the school for their amazing support.’
