North East Educators receive King Charles’ Birthday Honours

King Charles’ Birthday Honours list has been announced. The 2023 Honours list recognises many from the North East including academy trust leaders, lecturers and governors.

Schools North East would like to wish a big congratulations to all those honoured this year as well as those ‘unsung’ heroes who haven’t (yet!).

North East Honours

Those receiving awards in the North East working in Education and with young people include:

Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

Professor Lynne McKenna. Dean, Education and Society, University of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. For services to Education. (East Boldon, Tyne and Wear)
William Barnes. Governor, St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. For services to Education and to the community in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. (Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear)
Nicholas John Blackburn. Chief Executive Officer, Lingfield Education Trust, Darlington, County Durham. For services to Education. (Darlington, County Durham)
Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East said:

“A huge congratulations to Lynne, William, and Nick for receiving honours this year. We are so proud to see the efforts of some of the region’s hardworking educators recognised nationally.”
