Shining Stars: North East educators receive Royal seal of approval

We know our region is teeming with outstanding education professionals — too many to count! — but this article is dedicated to three of them in particular…

Katrina Morley, Karen Norton, and Toni Spoors were each recognised in the prestigious New Year’s Honours list, and on behalf of the entire Schools North East network, we want to say a huge congratulations.

Not only is this an elite recognition a testament to their exceptional contributions to children and young people, but it also serves as a beacon of hope for the entire North East education sector.

The North East’s high-quality education provision can’t be ignored

Katrina Morley, CEO of Tees Valley Education Trust, was awarded an OBE for her services to education. Katrina has been instrumental in driving school improvement across the Tees Valley, leading the Trust to become a shining example of educational achievement within the region.

Karen Norton, Executive Primary Head for Vision Academy Learning Trust, received an MBE for her dedication to education. Karen has created a nurturing and inclusive environment at Junction Farm, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Toni Spoors, Deputy CEO of North East Learning Trust, was recognised for her outstanding contribution to education. Toni has been a driving force in supporting schools across the region to improve their outcomes for children.

Their leadership, expertise, and commitment to the local community have made a significant impact on the lives of many young people, and we’re certain that they will continue to lead the way in exceptional standards of education.

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “These incredible honors serve as an inspiration to all educators in the region, demonstrating the positive impact that they can – and do – have on the lives of young people.

“It also highlights the importance of investing in education and supporting the development of talented educators, which is something that Schools North East advocates for passionately.”

Huge ‘well done’ once again to Katrina, Karen, and Toni! The North East is fortunate to have such dedicated and talented individuals working in education.
