NHSG marks 150th anniversary year with strongest GCSE results in recent years

There was a palpable sense of pride across Newcastle High School for Girls (NHSG) this morning as pupils received the strongest GCSE results in the School’s recent history, continuing the academic momentum established by last week’s outstanding A Level outcomes.

In a milestone year for NHSG as it celebrates its 150th anniversary, pupils delivered exceptional performances across a broad range of subjects, demonstrating the ambition, resilience and determination that have characterised this year’s cohort.

With 63% of grades awarded at 9-7 and a 100% pass rate, the results further strengthen NHSG’s reputation for academic excellence and reflect the School’s commitment to helping every girl realise her full potential.

For pupils, staff and families, this morning was an opportunity to reflect on years of hard work and to celebrate individual success.

Amanda Hardie, Head of Newcastle High School for Girls, said:

“Following the excellent A Level results we celebrated last week, it is wonderful to see our GCSE pupils attaining such outstanding success. To have achieved the strongest GCSE results in recent years is testament to the fulfilment of our School’s aim which is to ensure academic excellence for every individual girl.

“Each girl’s journey at NHSG is unique and today is a celebration of individual achievement. We are immensely proud of all that our girls have accomplished and delighted to see their hard work rewarded.”

The vast majority of pupils will remain at NHSG Sixth Form, pursuing a wide range of A Level subjects as they take the next steps towards higher education and future careers.

As NHSG marks 150 years of educating and empowering young women, today’s achievements represent another significant chapter in the School’s proud history. For a century and a half, the School has championed an education that encourages girls to think independently, embrace challenge and develop the confidence to shape the world around them.

Amanda Hardie added:

“These results provide a strong foundation for the opportunities ahead and we look forward to supporting our pupils as they begin the next stage of their academic journey. During our 150th anniversary year, it is especially rewarding to see another generation of young women embodying the ambition, curiosity and resilience that has always defined the NHSG community.”
