New Ofqual Chief Regulator selected

Education Select Committee Chairman Neil Carmichael will meet with new Ofqual Chief Regulator nominee Sally Collier next week after she was officially recommended by the Education Secretary for the role.

Nicky Morgan wrote to the Education Select Committee on 8 March putting Ms Collier’s name forward as the preferred candidate for the post. The Education Secretary also asked Neil Carmichael MP, Chair of the Committee to hold a pre-appointment hearing with Ms Collier. This will take place on Wednesday 16 March and will be followed by a short report on the committee’s opinion on the candidate.

The Chief Regulator post is a Crown Appointment and the appointment will not be confirmed until an order is laid by Privy Council.

The recommendation follows an extensive recruitment campaign, following Dame Glenys Stacey’s departure at the end of February who held the post since 2010.

Ms Collier was previously the Chief Executive of the Crown Commercial Service.

Pending the permanent appointment, Amanda Spielan, the Chair of Ofqual’s board, has taken on an ‘Interim Chief Regulator’ role.
