Longbenton High School : unprecedented levels of kindness, integrity, determination, positivity and ambition
Longbenton High School is very pleased to report the fantastic achievements by its students in their GCSE and vocational qualifications this summer.
Standout Achievement
- Overall 4+ pass rate: 78% (above national of 75.3%)
- Overall 5+ pass rate: 61% (above national of 60.3%)
- Overall 7+ pass rate: 26% (national 27%)
- Overall 9+ pass rate: 6.4% (national 6.8%)
- EnMa 4+: 71% of students achieved at least a standard pass (Grade 4) in both English and Maths (62% in 2019)
- EnMa 5+: 48% of students achieved at least a strong pass (Grade 5) in both English and Maths (40% in 2019)
- Ebacc: 24% (GCSEs in English, Maths, science, a humanities and a language qualification) 9% in 2019
- Half of all students (52%) achieved amongst the highest grades with at least 1 grade 7 or equivalent. 37% of students achieved at least 1 grade 8 or equivalent. 20% of students achieved at least 1 grade 9 or equivalent
- The average grade for all students was a grade 5 (‘strong’ pass)
Headteacher Kelly Holbrook said:
“I am in awe of what students have undertaken this summer. It must not be forgotten that this cohort faced unprecedented disruption throughout their GCSE studies. When they were in only the second term of Year 10 in January 2021, we went into the second national lockdown and students had to adapt to 3 months of online home learning.
They have faced further disruption to attendance and teaching during the successive waves of Covid and associated changes to rules and regulations (face masks, LFD testing) that our school community has endured. They are the first Year 11 cohort since 2019 to undertake examinations. Their last year of uninterrupted pre-pandemic education was when they were in Year 8. And they have faced all of this with unprecedented levels of kindness, integrity, determination, positivity and ambition.
It is incredible to see what students have achieved in spite of all of these obstacles. Teachers, staff, parents and carers deserve huge thanks for the encouragement and support they have provided students to ensure they reached their full potential this summer. I am looking forward to seeing the majority return to our sixth form for two more years of learning, personal growth, opportunity and success.”
