Local business donates to school food banks
Northumberland based PR and design agency Fusion PR has donated to support schools in the region who are providing food for their students and local communities.
With the ongoing effects of the pandemic having a huge impact on disadvantaged communities, food provision for students has been a huge topic in education, with Free School Meals for students hitting headlines several times this year. Campaigns from footballer Marcus Rashford have been successful in urging the government to provide Free School Meals over school holidays, but behind the scenes many schools across the region have rallied to support their local communities.
As well as providing deliveries for those on FSM, many have been running food banks, providing a crucial resource for their local communities during an incredibly difficult time, when many have seen a decrease in income, and may struggle to get to affordable shops locally.
Fusion PR chose 5 schools out of many in the region who are providing similar services. Each school will receive £150 to help them source food to donate to their local communities. The schools are all offering a range of different initiatives, from a mobile food bank to a ‘Community Cupboard’, breakfast bags and Christmas hampers.
The schools involved are:
Brandon Primary School, Durham
St Gabriel’s Primary School, Ormesby, Middlesbrough
Cambois Primary School, Blyth
The Dales School, Blyth
Castle View Enterprise Academy, Sunderland
Schools North East was inundated with responses, highlighting how many schools have stepped up to support their students, families and local areas during this incredibly difficult year. We are incredibly proud to be supporting the North East teaching profession who have proved to be the fourth emergency service this year.
