Hartlepool student awarded Vikas Agrawal Bursary for gifted mathematicians

The English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College, in Hartlepool, are celebrating their GCSE results today as a student is recognised for his Maths skills. The school is part of the Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust.

Passion for Maths and Science

Fareed joined English Martyrs Catholic School at the start of Year 11 after coming over to join his family from Nigeria. As well as ingratiating himself with his peers and quickly winning the respect of staff, the school noted that Fareed has proven himself to be an outstanding student who has a gentle demeanour, who works tirelessly in all that he does.

The Maths Department at The English Martyrs Catholic School describe him as “the best Mathematician anyone in the department has seen in all of their time in education”. Fareed’s passion for Maths and Science is clear for all to see and has been recognised with him achieving grade 8 passes in Chemistry and Physics and grade 9 passes in Maths and Further Maths.

However, Fareed’s talents do not start and end there. With a grade 9 in English Literature and Religious Studies, Fareed is a role model for what is possible when resilience, determination and hard work are applied.

Fareed has been awarded the Vikas Agrawal Bursary at English Martyrs Catholic School, for gifted mathematicians, and he has plans to join the Sixth Forth to continue his journey and studies. He hopes to become a doctor in the future, and the school is excited to support his ambitions.
