Heworth Grange School selected to make music video for the MOBOs

Heworth Grange School in Gateshead, part of Consilium Academies, is delighted to have been selected to take part in an exciting opportunity for the MOBO awards, which is a huge win for the North East.
The iconic MOBO awards, which celebrate excellence in Black music and culture, will be held at the Utilita Arena Newcastle on Tuesday 18th February. Another well-deserved point for our region!
An incredible opportunity within performing arts and film studies
Glow Newcastle, a new organisation that has grown out of Newcastle Cultural Education Partnership, approached Heworth Grange School to take part in a fringe project for the awards.
In collaboration with Northern Roots and the Tyneside Cinema, Glow has asked a group of Heworth students to create a music video and a documentary that shows the “making of” that video.
The school has selected 11 students from its Year 10 Dance and Film Studies classes to take part in the exciting project; pupils are now rehearsing, performing and shooting a dance music video. At the same time, they will produce a “making of the video” documentary, after learning how to create documentaries on their mobile phones.
The dance video will then be premièred at the Tyneside Cinema on Saturday 15th February at 5pm.
Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “”This is brilliant news for Heworth Grange School and the entire North East!
“The MOBO Awards coming to Newcastle is a win for our region, and Heworth Grange’s participation makes it even more special. A well-deserved opportunity and a fantastic achievement, congratulations and best of luck to all those involved.”
Talented students making the most of this unique and valuable experience
Erin Anderson, Associate Assistant Head Teacher at Heworth Grange School, said: “We are very proud to have been approached by Glow Newcastle to take part in this fringe event for the MOBOs.
“Our talented students are now working hard to perfect their dance routine and to document their experiences of making the video on their mobile phones.”
Neil Rodgers, Head Teacher at Heworth Grange School, said: “This is great news for Heworth Grange School and I am delighted that our students have been asked to take part.
