Fantastic grades for Bedlington Academy Pupils

Students at Bedlington Academy opened their GCSE envelopes today and were treated to some fantastic grades that reward years of hard work and students’ commitment to their studies. Coming on the back of a recent regrade from school inspectors Ofsted, the results are evidence of the complete turnaround of the school in recent years.

In total 22% of all grades were awarded at 9-7. Half of all students achieved grades 5+ in English and maths (strong passes), and two thirds of students achieved grades 4+ in English and maths (good passes).

Top performers at the Academy include:

• Katie Lee – eight grade 9s and two grade 8s

• Kate Thornton – six grade 9s, two grade 8s, two grade 7s

• James Brown – five grade 9s, four grade 8s, one grade 7

• Ruby Liversedge – one grade 9, six grade 8s, three grade 7s

• Aiden Forrest – one grade 9, five grade 8s, three grade 7s, one grade 6

In addition, many students made some fantastic progress from their initial starting points including Cailyn Price who joined the school in Year 10 after moving to the UK from South Africa achieving six grade 8s and four grade 7s.

Owen Brown, Mya Middleton, Sophie Agar, Bill Bennett and Lauren Shilton all achieved at least two grades higher than predicted in every subject.

Joanna Lamb, Headteacher at Bedlington Academy said:

“This year’s GCSE results are absolutely fantastic and everyone at the Academy is extremely proud of our students. Good results open up options for further study and rewarding careers, and I can vouch for how enthusiastic our students are to be taking their next steps in further study and apprenticeships. I’d like to say a huge thank you to our teachers and support staff who work tirelessly to give our children equal access to the very best educational opportunities, and who, like me, are absolutely thrilled with their achievements.”

Chair of governors, Ernie Milne, added:

“Yet again, our students have shown that determination, resilience and hard work pays off with another set of fantastic GCSE results. On behalf of the governing body, I would like to say a massive thank you to our staff for their hard work and commitment who have supported them every step of the way. We are delighted that so many students are moving on to study at our own Sixth Form NE6 and look forward to supporting them in the exciting next phase of their learning journeys.”
