Endeavor Academies: A new model for education

Endeavor Academies, a school trust based in Middlesbrough, is pioneering a new approach to education that prioritises community engagement and collaboration. Led by CEO Phil Latham, the trust is striving to create a more equitable and supportive learning environment for its students.

The challenge of deprivation

Middlesbrough, like many other areas in the North East, faces significant challenges related to poverty and social inequality. Of course, these challenges have a direct impact on schools, affecting factors like attendance, behaviour, and mental health. 

Recognising the limitations of traditional school-based interventions, Endeavor Academies has embarked on a bold new strategy.

A community-centric approach

The trust has partnered with the Reach Foundation to implement a “cradle-to-career” model. This approach emphasises the importance of strong relationships with parents and the community, which has become more crucial than ever before in this pre-pandemic world. 

Phil explains that by listening to the needs of local residents and businesses, Endeavor Academies aims to create a more holistic and supportive learning environment.

Key elements of this approach include:

  • Community Engagement: The trust has established convening partnerships, bringing together various stakeholders, including local businesses, charities, and healthcare providers, to address shared challenges.
  • Parental Involvement: Endeavor Academies is prioritising parental engagement, recognising the crucial role parents play in their children’s education.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: The trust utilises data to identify areas of need and to measure the impact of its interventions.

By adopting a more community-centric approach, Endeavor Academies is working to create a brighter future for its students. The trust’s innovative model has the potential to inspire other schools and communities to rethink traditional approaches to education.
