Campaign aims to inspire NE young women
Extol Academy Trust schools are involved in a campaign which looks to “improve the lives of young women.”
Students from Thorntree Academy have attended events as part of the campaign and have had the opportunity to connect with mentors and hear success stories from local role models.
The students have benefitted from an education and careers portal which plots “where you are now to where you deserve to be in the future” by “giving you the tools to get to where they want to be. Once they show you that there are no limitations on your future, we want to help you find the path to get there.”
The Power of Women campaign was originally launched last year in the Tees Valley following a study which found that Middlesbrough was one of the worst areas in the country for women to grow up in. Led by the late Professor Jane Turner OBE DL, the campaign looks to raise aspirations and inspire confidence in young women in the Tees Valley area.
The campaign also aims to tackle gender inequality through encouraging women to form a community of support which allows them to not only break through the glass ceiling but remove it for future generations.
Rosalind Stuart from the Power of Women campaign said:
“Each of us is committed to disrupting the status quo, for good. The Power of Women campaign was created to put an end to gender inequality. We want to help the young girls and women of the Tees Valley by showing you what’s possible, we want to demonstrate to young girls that they shouldn’t be limited by their postcode.”
