Berwick MP resigns from education post over Brexit deal concerns
Berwick-upon-Tweed MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan has resigned her position as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Government’s Education Ministers in protest at the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal.
She was appointed to the role at the Department for Education in September 2018.
In her letter of resignation to the Prime Minister she said: “It is with a profoundly heavy heart that I tender my resignation as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Department for Education, as I cannot support the Withdrawal Agreement which you have agreed with the EU”.
Trevelyan said she would “continue to speak on all those matters close to my heart”, including special educational needs.
